20 February 2015

10978546 675473302562851 6579435245059729030 nCHS pupils competed at the E District cross country championships at Necarne Estate in Irvinestown on Wednesday 11th February.

Competition was strong throughout the day and there were good performances by the following:

Gary Bell (Mini boys)
Andrew Shaw and Joshua Griggs (Minor Boys)
Andre Santos and Fernando Gomes da Silva (Junior Boys)

10959467 675458915897623 4500754033960145589 nThe highlight of the day however was the Minor Girls 1 mile race where Hannah Haycock and Freya Kennedy were in the lead group from the start. They ran really sensibly and managed to pull away from the main pack towards the end. Hannah finished an excellent 2nd with Freya not far behind in 3rd. This was a magnificent achievement by both girls and to have two athletes from the same school finish in the top 3 is unheard of.

Grace Carson ran in the Inter Girls 2 mile race shortly after and again stuck with the leading pack. She managed very well to hang on to finish 5th in a field of over 50 finishers.

The three girls have qualified for the Ulster Schools Champs which take place at Mallusk on 24th February. We wish them well.
