Languages - Facilities & resources

Facilities & Resources

Pupils are taught by dynamic, specialist teachers in subject-specific classrooms.  An ICT Suite is located within the Modern Languages Department, to enhance and encourage interactive learning. Reading material in French, German and Spanish is available, both within the department and in the school library, to promote further, independent study of the language.

Additional Information

  • As frequently as possible there is a MFL trip to a French/German/Spanish speaking region, this offers pupils an ideal opportunity to practise their language skills and to enhance their cultural knowledge.
  • In support of the A-level specifications, pupils sometimes attend a Study Day and/or a Film Day at the Queen’s University of Belfast.
  • The European Day of Languages is celebrated yearly in school, providing opportunities to promote the study of Languages and celebrate cultural diversity.
  • Pupils are annually given to opportunity to participate in the activities organised at St George’s Market, Opportunity Europe Event.
  • Through a pen pal scheme, some pupils studying French have the opportunity to correspond with a young French speaker, thus having the opportunity to put into practice the skills developed within the classroom.
  • We try to avail of Film and Study day opportunities offered to GCSE and A Level pupils by the Queen’s University of Belfast, the Goethe Institut and CILT.
  • In previous years pupils have chosen to continue their study of French/German/Spanish at university, including Oxford.
  • To promote links with Spain we host a school exchange party from Madrid.
