Religious Studies - GCSE

RE2Religious Studies at GCSE is intended to be accessible to pupils of any religious persuasion or none and is designed to be as free as possible from ethnic, gender, religious, political, or other form of bias.

The course is designed to:

Ø     Help learners to recognise and appreciate the religious and spiritual dimensions of life through research and questioning.

Ø     Help learners to understand how Christians see their religion as a ‘realm of meaning’ that seeks to express the significance of human life.

Ø     Challenge learners to examine their own life stances as they identify the values and attitudes which influence them.

Ø     Encourage learners to respect others’ beliefs, values and attitudes.

FULL COURSE RELIGIOUS STUDIES

This is available to pupils who wish to take this subject at full GCSE level.

FULL Course Students study TWO  of nine Units

ASSESSMENT:  Two examinations papers, one in each of your chosen units

UNIT 1 Examination = 50%

UNIT 2 Examination = 50%

 One Unit will be taken at the end of Year 11 and the other in Year 12.

There is no Controlled Assessment element.

 

SHORT COURSE RELIGIOUS STUDIES

This is taken by all pupils, as this subject is a legal requirement of the Core Syllabus.

ASSESSMENT:  Examination

Paper 1 (1 hour 30 minutes = 100%)

Short Course students study ONE of nine units which will be taken in Year 11.

Religious Studies does NOT have a controlled assessment element

 

The nine units are: -

The Christian Church through a Study of the Catholic Church and One Protestant Tradition The Christian Church with a Focus on EITHER the Catholic Church OR Protestant Tradition The Revelation of God and the Christian Church
Christianity through a Study of the Gospel of Matthew Christianity through a Study of the Gospel of Mark World Religion: Islam
World Religion: Judaism An Introduction to Christian Ethics An Introduction to Philosophy of Religion
