Ashcloud Apocalypse

13 November 2015

ashcloud-calmThe Geography Department have signed up to World GIS Day which takes place on 18th November 2015. It is a global event which has been running since 1999 and is a great opportunity for pupils to learn about and show-case real-world applications of GIS (Geographical Information Systems). This is the first time we have been involved in the event and this year’s theme is “Ashcloud Apocalypse”. This rather cataclysmic theme allows pupils to map the risk posed to them in the event of an eruption of a mega volcano!

In order to facilitate as many pupils experiencing this event, many of the geography pupils will be completing the on-line activities throughout next week, 16th-20th November. All of the data we enter will then be collated as part of the overall global participation.

I am hoping there won’t be an “ICT Apocalyse” as we all try and log on together!
