CHS boys help secure interprovincial win

24 November 2014

Interpros-webLast weekend Michael, Joshua and Jack, played a major role in helping Ulster win the U16 Interprovincial hockey title.

The prestigious tournament was played over a round robin format with each team playing each other twice.

Ulster got off to a perfect start on Friday with an emphatic 5-0 win over Leinster and this was followed up on Saturday with a 9-3 demolition of Munster leaving Ulster in a very strong position going into Sundays matches.

Their first match on Sunday was against Munster and they came out comfortable 4-0 winners which meant that Leinster would have to beat them by 5 clear goals in the deciding match of the tournament.

Ulster started this match slowly and allowed Leinster to race into an early 2 goal lead which put Ulster under pressure and allowed Leinster to gain some momentum and belief that they could actually force a tournament win.  Ulster steadied themselves however, and got themselves back into the game and were drawing 3-3 before conceding a goal in the last seconds to leave them losing the match but still with plenty to spare in winning the tournament.
