Past pupils represent Great Britain

17 April 2015

GB Representatives-webMonday saw 2 past pupils from Cookstown High School in the GB starting team for a non capped test match against Germany. The fixture at Bisham Abbey saw former Cookstown players David Ames (Beeston HC) and Ian Sloan (Wimbledon HC) join GB regulars Iain Lewers (Holcombe HC) and Mark Gleghorne (East Grinstead).

In the 1980s the GB team regularly featured Ulster players Stephen Martin, Billy McConnell and Jimmy Kirkwood. Others such as Mark Burns, Martin Sloan, John McKee and Kenny Morris were also involved however it is not thought there was an occasion when the starting team ever had 4 from Ulster and certainly not two from Cookstown.

To add to the day GB won 3-2 against Germany with a last minute Mark Gleghorne goal proving conclusive.
