Mardi Gras Competition

10 March 2016

Throughout February Year 8 classes have been enthusiastically engaged in celebrating the cultural diversity between French speaking countries and the UK.  As Easter approaches pupils were taught about the French celebrations surrounding Mardi Gras and carnivals and street parties in New Orleans, France and Belgium.

There were many varied and unusual traditions observed including the throwing of oranges into the crowd and the beautifully decorated masks for Mardi Gras.

The pupils were surprised to learn about the celebrations and James commented “I really enjoyed doing something very different in class” and Elisha said “I most enjoyed creating and decorating the Mardi Gras mask.”

Pupils have been very creative and Mrs Allen’s classes have competed to gain House points in a closely contested Mardi Gras competition.  The winners in 8CB were Amy and Ella with runners up Rebecca, Elisha, Katie and Neil.  In 8HB the winner was Alanna and Luke and Elliott were the runners up.
