s thompsonPupils and staff at Cookstown High School were delighted to welcome the appointment of a new Vice Principal, Mr Stephen Thompson who arrived in the school at the start of term on 4 January and will have responsibility for all things pastoral.  Mr Thompson succeeds Mr Wayne Brown who took up a new post as Principal of Tandragee Junior High School in September.

Speaking about his appointment Mr Thompson said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have been appointed to the High school.  This is a well known school with a great reputation in Northern Ireland education.  I am excited about joining a team which is completely committed to pupil achievement.

Good pastoral care is crucial to young people as they settle into school, and to their wellbeing and ability to learn and succeed after that.  I know that there is a great pastoral team in place and that the pastoral provision here is highly regarded and I am delighted that I’ll be able to build on such a sound foundation.”

Commenting on his appointment the Headmaster Graham Montgomery said, “Stephen Thompson will be an excellent addition to our leadership team and comes to us well placed to play a key role in leading the High School forward in the coming years.  We are excited about the future as we continue to promote excellence, opportunity and support for all our pupils.”

Mr Thompson was educated at Grosvenor Grammar School, the Queens University of Belfast and Ulster University.  He is married to Nicola and they have two children, Matthew and Katie.
