Working from Home - Directions and Support

19th Mar 2020

Parents and students, as school prepares to close following guidance from the government, we have added a number of resources to support parents and students as they continue with their education at home.

You will find a new section on the frontpage of our school website named 'Working from Home'. If you expand the section titled 'March 2020' you will find a range of useful documents. There are three working schedules for Key Stage 3 (Years 8-10), Key Stage 4 (Years 11 and 12) and Key Stage 5 (Year 13-14). In these documents staff have provided directions to the work that should be completed for each subject over the coming days and weeks. This may detail a booklet that should be read, worksheets that should be completed or activities that can be undertaken in existing paper based resources.

Many staff have also created digital content and shared this via platforms such as Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams. This provides the opportunity for students to access resources electronically. This may include sound files, Powerpoints or Videos. Access codes for these platforms will either be posted in the work schedule, have been sent to you via the parent app or your child's teacher will have sent an invite directly to them.

As this format of working is relatively new and the scale with which it is now being used has been dictated by the current circumstances you or your child may find accessing the resources difficult, especially at the first attempt. We have also provided some guidance materials on how to access the school "MySchool" area from home. This will allow your child to access all the documents they have stored on the school system, obtain their email and access other resources such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams.

There are further guidance materials specifically aimed at accessing online platforms such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams. These are all held within the "Working from Home" area and should be available to you via the SIMS Parent App.

Teachers will continue to support children with their learning and your child can use the facilities within Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams or simply send an email to avail of this support.

Any further resources will be added to this area and grids will be updated as required.

We wish all our students, parents and staff well in the coming days and weeks as we all adjust to these exceptional circumstances.
